Meet: Cassie Beasley
What was the biggest factor in your decision to enroll at Georgia Southern?
Location was the biggest factor in my decision. Georgia Southern is very close to home for me, so that was a plus. Also, I had the opportunity to joint enroll as a high school student, so I knew that it was a great school.
Why did you decide to major in Writing & Linguistics as opposed to other majors?
My first creative writing class with Professor Eric Nelson had me hooked. I loved the small class sizes as well. At the time there were a ton of workshops. That’s a really unique experience and so valuable for a beginning writer.
Would you say your experiences at Georgia Southern have prepared you for graduate school and employer demands?
The undergrad program in Writing & Linguistics was a great preparation for earning my MFA. I had a lot of experience with critique and workshopping going in, and that was a huge advantage.
How do you plan to apply your skills as a writer in your everyday life and how did majoring in Writing and Linguistics at Georgia Southern allow you to develop those skills?
I’m a full-time children’s book writer now, with my debut novel, Circus Mirandus, out in June 2015!
