Meet: Amanda Malone

What was the biggest factor in your decision to enroll at Georgia Southern?

I chose Georgia Southern because I’d get a big campus with small classes and four years later, I am still so glad I came.

Why did you decide to minor in Writing and Linguistics as opposed to other minor?

I decided to minor in Writing because I knew it’d be a great complement to my major and help me develop written communication skills.

Would you say your experiences at Georgia Southern have prepared you for graduate school and employer demands?

While at Georgia Southern, I was President of the Writer’s Guild. Being a part of Guild was an awesome experience–we’re all about fostering a community of writers at Georgia Southern and I met some great fellow writers because of it.

How do you plan to apply your skills as a writer in your everyday life and how did majoring in Writing and Linguistics at Georgia Southern allow you to develop those skills?

Fiction [WRIT4530] has been my favorite class, by far. Not only did I get great feedback from my professor and peers on how to improve my writing, I learned better ways of articulating critiques, which has definitely helped me in other ways. I had to become familiar with identifying problems in order to fully understand how to offer solutions and my own writing subsequently improved.

What professors in particular stood out to you as effective role models and guides to you as a student?

The writing professors at Georgia Southern are simply the best–they’re experts in their craft, easy to talk to, and always helping students find ways to succeed. They really care about making sure students have a path to follow once the undergrad years are over.
