Journal of Student Success in Writing
The Journal of Student Success in Writing is a peer-reviewed journal committed to sharing practice and research that help to foster student success in writing. Our audience includes high school teachers, two-year and four-year college faculty, administrators, librarians and information specialists, and graduate students.
Article proposals should describe the intended article’s content in no more than 300 words. The proposal should clearly specify whether the author intends the article to be a short teaching-based article or a longer research-based piece.
The contributor’s name should appear only on a separate title sheet. Double-spacing is mandatory. Please be sure your name does not appear on a running header or footer, and that you do not disclose your identity or the identity of your institution anywhere in the proposal.

We accept submissions by e-mail attachment in Microsoft Word. Please do not send your article as a PDF. Send submissions to email@example.com

Please be sure that your name does not appear on a running header or footer, and that you do not disclose your identity or the identity of your institution anywhere in the text.
Because we are an on-line journal, each article is published as a distinct .pdf file rather than continuous published pages. For that reason, we feel continuity of format among different articles is not necessary, and so invite authors to follow either MLA or APA style as they prefer and in keeping with the style most suited to their particular topic/discipline.
We have no firm rules on preferred length, but as a general rule, most articles focused on practice should be 10-15 double-spaced pages in 12 point Times New Roman; most articles detailing research studies should total roughly 20-30 double-spaced pages in 12 point Times New Roman.
The editors assume that your essay is not being simultaneously considered for publication in other journals. We offer readers new scholarship only, and will not reprint work that has appeared elsewhere in whole or in substantial part. If you wish to withdraw your essay from consideration, please email the editors.
Proposals are evaluated once a year following the closing of the annual call for proposals each December 1. We usually respond within one month; if the process extends to more than two months, feel free to query us. Submission of complete article drafts for accepted proposals are due by June 15. The articles are sent for double-blind peer review to at least two outside readers within one month of submission. Reviewers typically have 45 days to submit their reviews. The editors will typically make a decision to accept, to request revisions before accepting or to reject the manuscript within 30 days. If major revisions are required, the revised article will be sent through a second blind review. An article will usually appear within six months of acceptance of the article (not the proposal). Acceptance of a proposal is not a guarantee of article acceptance.
Inclusion of photographs or art reproductions is acceptable as long as the contributor has obtained the necessary copyright permissions. The use of illustrations will be judged on a case-by-case basis.
After publication, you will retain the copyright to the content of your article.
