study strings performance at georgia southern university

symphony

The mission of the Georgia Southern Symphony is to develop a high quality University orchestra. The focus of rehearsals are on ensemble, beauty of tone, intonation, and musical expression. Rehearsals include sectionals, seating rotation and sight reading. Concerts, which include major orchestral repertoire from the Baroque to the Contemporary periods, also feature faculty, student, and guest soloists and conductors. The Symphony also  performs for opera and choral presentations.

Membership in the Symphony is open, by audition, to all Georgia Southern students who demonstrate proficiency on a string, wind or percussion instrument. Auditions for participation in the ensemble are held at the beginning of each term. All Symphony members are eligible for a service award based on available funds, attendance, preparation, and performance.

The Symphony aims to enhance the musical education of its members and to contribute to the cultural life of the region.
