About Dr. Seaman

How to summarize a career spanning half a century!? One way to put it is: Learn French and discover the world!  As a professor of French I toured French-speaking countries in western Africa, such as Sénégal, and lived for a year in Morocco, teaching English at a university near Fez. I even taught French at a university in China! You could, too!

Meanwhile, I have taught French at universities in California (Stanford), Illinois (Lake Forest), West Virginia (Davis and Elkins), Indiana (Evansville), and finally Georgia (Georgia Southern University!). Seeing so many varied students has been the greatest reward of teaching.

Professors are expected to be scholars as well as teachers, and I have focused on the avant-garde, art and literary movements that challenge the old concepts of art. For me, the movement of French Lettrism has been my specialty. Lettrists like to use letters and signs to enhance their art forms. I have met with the artists, and even became a member of their group for exhibitions and publications. It is not easy to teach about Lettrism in class, but I got a lot of chances to publish books and articles about this subject.

But you are students today. I have spent years preparing my life for all these events, but you do not need to go through all that. Just take one French class, and then sign up for a study abroad. You will learn so much, you will grow and become the Global Citizens of tomorrow. We count on you!
