Best Paper Awards

These awards recognize outstanding achievement in literature courses, regardless of a student’s major. Awards are given for each of the following categories:

  • 2000-level literature course
  • 3000-level, 4000-level, or 5000-level course
  • graduate-level course

Brannen Creative Writing Award 

This award recognizes outstanding achievement in each of three genres: poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Any student who is (1) majoring in English/Creative Writing, minoring in one of its fields, or concentrating in Writing through the Bachelor of General Studies program and (2) a first-year student or a sophomore (accrued no more than 60 credit hours) at the time that the creative piece is submitted for consideration is eligible. The judges will be three faculty members from the Department of English who have expertise in creative writing. Winners are announced in fall of each year.

End-of-year awards ceremony for Georgia Southern students selected to have their work published in Fledge: The Journal of Outstanding First-Year Writing.

Fledge High School Writing Awards

End-of-year awards ceremony for local high school students selected to have their work published in a special high school edition of Fledge: The Journal of Outstanding First-Year Writing.
