Getting Used to Your New Surroundings, and Get Ready for Orientation!
Getting Used to Your New Surroundings
Coming to a new country to study English is very exciting. It can be interesting and lots of fun, but it can be a little scary too! But don’t worry! We will do everything in our power to make your stay in Statesboro and your time at Georgia Southern a fun and enjoyable experience. Plus, we will help you learn English as a second language with our intensive English Language Program.
Here are a few tips to get you started:
- Plan to arrive early and get a feel for your new home. Take a walk, and take some time to explore your new campus or neighborhood. Get some fresh air and explore your surroundings. This will help with the effects of jet-lag too.
- Don’t be afraid to speak English. The best way you will learn a new language is to speak it all the time – don’t be afraid of making mistakes! You will be surprised at how people want to help you learn.
- It often takes some time to adjust to a new culture, new language, new people and new surroundings. Be prepared for change. Take this opportunity to travel to the US with no commitments except to study English and learn about a new culture.
We have a full day and a half of Orientation planned for you. Orientation starts at 9 a.m. on Monday the 12th of June, so be sure to be here in plenty of time. We will give you a tour of the facilities at Georgia Southern, so you will have an idea of where everything is located. You can see the full schedule here. Then, in the afternoon of the second day, your first English classes will begin.
We can’t wait to see you!
