Tips for making the most out of your time abroad

As we begin week 2 of the fall semester, we hope you’re settling in well. We want you to experience the many benefits of being an International student here at Georgia Southern so we have put together a list of tips for making the most of your time abroad!

Attend WOW Events. Weeks of Welcome provides a week-long series of activities at the beginning of the school year, designed to welcome both new and current students back to campus. Events include; outdoor movie nights, concerts and performances, and various skill contests.GS

Enjoy Georgia Southern Traditions. One fall tradition being Homecoming, where thousands of Georgia Southern alumni, current students and community members unite for our Homecoming football game, social events and even a parade. Join a Student Organization. Lifelong friendships are often formed at college, as well as the opportunity to interact with people from different walks of life. One way to make new friends is to join a Student Organization on campus, with over 250 to choose from you are bound to find one that piques your interests. My Involvement

Visit International Conversation Hour. Both American and International students, faculty and staff join together for free, tasty food and great conversation. Hosted by the Center of International Studies every Friday- Starting August 21st in the Russell Union Ballroom from 11:30-1:00p.m. International Conversation Hour

Need Transportation? You have the option of renting a bike for the entire semester from the RAC for $30. Campus Transit Service takes you around campus during classes, final exams and football game days. Off campus you have the option of hiring a car through Zipcar, car pool with friends or book a local taxi. If you wish to buy a car make sure you have a social security card and valid driving license to legally drive in the US. Transportation

Explore Statesboro. Statesboro maybe a small town with 29,000 people but there are many fun things to do. Visit the local Farmers Market downtown every Saturday, April through November, then stop by Cake Bakery & Cool Beanz Espresso Bar with some friends. Statesboro has a variety of restaurants and a 42,000 square foot Clubhouse with bowling, mini golf, laser tag and arcade.
