The Multimedia and Film Production program prepares students for the field of multimedia communications in a holistic manner. With media convergence in full bloom, the various information and entertainment industries have more in common than ever before. Employees need to be creative, entrepreneurial, skilled and broadly educated. MMFP prepares students to be adaptable, so they are ready for a multiplicity of opportunities in the communication fields. Not only do students learn how to operate equipment to produce creative programming, but they develop into quality writers, performers, and thinkers.

In the multimedia field, it is mandatory that employees be prepared to wear a variety of hats and respond proactively to a continually evolving profession. There are an abundance of opportunities on campus for students to discover the direction in which they want to chart their course, including WVGS FM, independent film production, the campus TV network, and website presentation. The internship program connects students with multimedia professionals and facilities, and leads to job placement for three out of every four of its graduates. Alumni are employed at media facilities throughout the U.S., and in positions ranging from sports reporters and TV news anchors, to Hollywood film producers and meteorologists.

The degree prepares students for a broad assortment of career opportunities. Graduates secure positions in the motion picture industry, broadcast stations, social media, and in corporate and government operations. A number of graduates pursue advanced degrees, ranging from law to mass communication to religion. Individuals who can communicate with the written word, verbally, and with technology, are going to be successful in the 21st Century. Those are the empowering skills students develop within MMFP.

Multimedia and Film Production Internship
The Multimedia Film & Production Internship (MMFP 4791) may be taken by MMFP majors who have earned a 2.75 total institution GPA and have completed all other major requirements.

Facilities
Multimedia and Film Production is a hands-on program to ensure students are prepared to employ the “tools of the trade” upon graduation. This is an ongoing process which reflects the changing nature of the broadcast, film, and Internet industries for which students are being educated. Current facilities are located in Sanford Hall on the Statesboro campus.
The Department’s Audio Facilities include two radio production studios for academic instruction, an eighteen station computer lab for digital production, announcing and editing, the WVGS radio complex, and portable equipment for live remote productions.
The Video Facilities include a multi-camera production studio and control room, fixed and portable lighting equipment, origination complex, and multiple digital editing laboratories and suites. A variety of types and sizes of camcorders are employed for remote production activities. In addition, students operate portable production truck equipment during athletic event coverage.
WVGS FM is a 1,000 watt student-operated station that serves both campus and Statesboro’s entertainment and information needs.
Professor Kent Murray passed away in summer 2014. Donations are being accepted for the Kent Murray TV Studio fund to name our new Sanford TV studio after Kent. The studio is a new facility he dreamed of and planned for over the past 30 years. He designed the current facility, but unfortunately, did not get to teach in it. Multimedia & Film Production
In our modern digital era, the Multimedia and Film Production Minor is a great complement to any degree, preparing you to produce engaging multimedia content on any topic. Essential courses include Single Camera Production, Audio Production and Sound Design, and Digital Media Post Production.
Film Studies Interdisciplinary
Film Studies students examine films aesthetically, historically, and culturally. An interdisciplinary Minor in Film Studies gives you a broad understanding of contemporary culture and its international dimensions while strengthening critical skills you will need to articulate that understanding.
Entertainment Industry Professions
The minor in Entertainment Industry Professions participates in the Georgia Film Consortium, a collaborative of the University System of Georgia and Technical College of Georgia, to offer professional coursework in film, television, and digital entertainment.
