Georgia Southern University, a member institution of the University System of Georgia and a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University, is among Georgia’s premier universities. A residential university serving more than 20,000 students, Georgia Southern is recognized for providing all of the benefits of a major university with the feeling of a much smaller college. Founded in 1906, the University offers more than 100 campus-based and online degree programs at the baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral levels through eight colleges. In 2012, Georgia Southern was named one of the top 10 most popular universities in the country by U.S. News & World Report. The more than 700 acre park-like campus is located in Statesboro, a classic Main Street community near historic Savannah and Hilton Head Island. Within this setting, the Department of Communication Arts provides a forum in which students, as part of the largest department in the college, can develop life skills such as self-confidence in oral and written presentations, excellent communication skills, critical analysis, and problem solving. Students in the Department represent a broad spectrum of majors, interests, and career possibilities in Communication Arts, Communication Studies, Journalism, Multimedia Communication (information, production, and film), Public Relations, and Theatre. They work with each other and with faculty on research projects, state-of-the-art productions, events, on-line news outlets, and broadcasts.
