The Artist: 

Betty Foy Sanders, a native of Bulloch County and wife of former Georgia Governor Carl Sanders, began her academic career at Georgia Southern University. Since then, she has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards recognizing her accomplishments as an artist and arts advocate. In 1997 Georgia Southern University awarded Mrs. Sanders an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts degree.  The University officially renamed the visual arts department the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art in 1999 in further recognition of Mrs. Sanders’ dedicated support.
