‘Elisabeth Condon: The Seven Seas’
Exhibition an Exploration of 1970s, ‘80s Los Angeles Nightclub Culture

Georgia Southern University’s Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art presents Elisabeth Condon: The Seven Seas from August 19 through September 27 in the University Gallery at the University’s Center for Art & Theatre.
The exhibition includes an artist lecture Thursday, September 5, at 5 p.m. in the Visual Arts Building, Room 2071, followed immediately by an artist reception in the gallery. The event is free, and the public is welcome.
The Seven Seas explores a teenager’s first encounter with the nightclub culture found within Los Angeles during the late 1970s and early 1980s. By utilizing both memory and reference material, Condon seamlessly blends the architecture, lifestyle and aesthetics associated with Sunset Strip nightclubs such as Rodney Bingenheimer’s English Disco. Known for her exploration of various painting techniques, Condon creates stunning paintings and mixed-media objects that capture the uncertainty and excitement surrounding the rock ‘n roll lifestyle and the landscape of childhood.
“We are thrilled to introduce Georgia Southern and Statesboro residents to the work of internationally renowned artist Elisabeth Condon,” said Marc Mitchell, gallery director for the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art. “The exhibition is centered around themes of memory and nostalgia, which are melded with elements of popular culture. The result is an amazing visual experience filled with paintings that utilize materials such as glitter, fur and rhinestones to truly capture a certain environment and time period.”
Condon’s work has been shown at venues such as the National Art Museum of China; Weatherspoon Art Museum in Greensboro, N.C.; Hunter College in New York; Whitecliff College of Art & Design in Auckland, New Zealand; STOREFRONT in New York; Winkelman Gallery in New York and many others. Condon is represented by Emerson Dorsch Gallery, Miami, and Lesley Heller Gallery, New York.
