University presents Strings at Southern Chamber Music Festival

MusicParticipants of Georgia Southern University’s Strings at Southern Chamber Music Festival for high school and university students will join thousands of musicians and hundreds of concert presenters across the country this May 1- 4 in celebrating National Chamber Music Month, part of a Chamber Music America initiative to raise nationwide public awareness of the many styles of modern small-ensemble music.

Presented by Chamber Music America and Georgia Southern University, string players from around Georgia and beyond will study with the internationally acclaimed Elaris Duo – comprising Dr. Larisa Elisha, violin, and Dr. Steven Elisha, cello, the directors of the festival and the Strings program at Georgia Southern University – in five days of intensive training that includes string master classes, chamber ensemble coachings, workshops and string chamber orchestra rehearsals.

The community is invited to three public performances during the festival:

  • May 1 – Festival Faculty Recital, featuring the Elaris Duo  at 7:30 p.m. in the University’s Carol A. Carter Recital Hall
  • May 3 – Festival Student Chamber Recital at 7:30 p.m. at the Georgia Southern Museum
  • May 4 – Festival Gala Concert  at 3 p.m. at the University’s Carol A. Carter Recital Hall
