Department of Communication Arts to host tailgate cook-off

Slide1The Department of Communication Arts will host A Taste for Southern, a tailgating cook-off, on Saturday, April 27 starting at 11 a.m. in the faculty/staff parking lot beside J.I. Clements Stadium. All proceeds will benefit the Department’s move to Sanford Hall in 2014.

A Taste for Southern is a tailgating cooking competition that will allow participants to showcase their skills. Entries are not limited to one type of food.

“Contestants are encouraged to bring a grill, be creative and give it their all,” said Haley Walton, a committee member of the event.

The entry fee is $50. Individuals or teams of up to four people are allowed to enter. All entries will receive a 10 percent discount at Ellis Farm Fresh Meats.  The winning entry will receive a 30-minute segment on Channel 99’s Statesboro Cooks.

While contestants are perfecting their winning entries there will be face painting, corn hole games and raffle prizes that the whole family can enjoy. Georgia Southern’s radio station, 91.9 The Buzz, will broadcast live, and Channel 99 will cover the event for a special episode.

Afterward, everyone is invited to watch the Eagles take on Elon at 2:30 p.m.

This event is sponsored by the Department of Communication Arts, a co-sponsor of Channel 99, which airs Statesboro Cooks and Georgia Southern News. The Department offers degrees in multimedia communication, communication studies, journalism, public relations and theater.
