The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art, Studio Art concentration program at Georgia Southern University is a professional undergraduate degree designed for creative individuals who want to develop discipline-specific mastery and/or interdisciplinary professional practice in studio art. Offered on the Statesboro and Armstrong campuses, this visual art program will immerse you in studio experiences that will not only develop your knowledge of professional studio practices, skills and technology, but also help you discover your own artistic voice.
Your coursework allows you to choose from studio classes that address traditional, interdisciplinary, and innovative approaches to creating art. In other words, you will sharpen your technical skills, learn to use industrial technology, and develop research skills that blend multiple art and academic disciplines to bring depth and meaning to your work.
Complete programs in Statesboro and Savannah
A student may take all required courses for the BFA, Studio Art program on either the Statesboro Campus or the Armstrong Campus without needing to commute between campuses for classes.
Exploratory studio courses from all campuses are available with advisor consent.

BFA students learn a range of skills that equip them for professional art careers. Along with your studio coursework, you will focus on learning professional studio practices. Throughout your time in our program, you will meet professional and emerging artists through gallery exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, and more. By the end of your senior year, you will have completed a body of work for exhibition.

In addition to leading directly to employment, our Bachelor of Fine Arts programs provide the basis for further education. Our graduates have successfully pursued Master of Fine Arts degrees in ceramics, drawing and painting, photography, graphic design, fiber arts, and digital art. They have also received certificates and master’s degrees in Art Education.
What’s the difference in the BFA and the BA?
Both the BFA and BA prepare students for careers in the art world and entry into a graduate program. The Studio Art BFA is for students who want to develop discipline-specific mastery and/or interdisciplinary professional practice in studio art. The program requires more upper-level studio art courses than the BA. The BA is for students who have interests outside of the studio. The BA requires students to choose a minor which allows students to combine their art degree with a program from a different area.
