Kelley presents panel at SECAC
MFA candidate Zak Kelley had a panel presentation at SECAC in October. The panel was named “Art and Aesthetics in an Era of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Art: The Future Will Be the Now, or Will It?”
Kelley’s research in his MFA studio practice is coming to an understanding of the participants in an art experience and comparing that to role playing games, like D&D. So, Kelley took this panel topic from the angle of understanding how AI could participate in an art experience as a viewer. Kelley began by examining Michael Fried’s theatricality as it relates to participation, then went into defining exactly what a viewer is based on participation. Then, he placed the AI into the viewer’s seat and examined the possible implications of that experience.
