Hines’ work goes to space, is featured in new book, and on display at MOCA-Georgia
On September 8, Jessica Hines’ artwork blasted off into outer space aboard OSIRIS-REx for NASA’s mission to the asteroid Bennu (185911.61 miles away from earth at its closes point). OSIRIS-REx will rendezvous with the Bennu in August 2018 when it will take measurements and collect data and samples from Bennu’s surface. OSIRIS-REx will then send a capsule back to Earth as it passes by in September 2023. With its artwork onboard, the spacecraft will then orbit the sun for millennia.
Hines was invited to submit work for the book “Inspired Georgia” published by UGA Press, just released on Sept. 1. She will be at the book signing/poetry reading, and cocktail reception on Oct. 26 at the Westside Cultural Center in Atlanta.
Hines’ work is currently on display in the show “Edge to Edge,” the first ever state-wide survey of contemporary Georgia photography. As such, exhibition will “serve as a testament to the power of photography itself.” The work selected for “Edge to Edge” was chosen for its visual strength, expressive sophistication, and technical artistry. The show opened on Sept. 2 at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia in Atlanta. The Museum chose to purchase one of Hines’ images for its permanent collection.
As part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography month, Hines will present a talk at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia on September 28 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Hines will speak about her work and the evolution of the artist.
