BFSDoArt Students Exhibit in Savannah’s Blick Gallery

 

NOTE: The Ovation exhibition’s opening has been postponed because of Hurricane Hermine. It will now open, Sept. 10. Reception will continue as scheduled on Sept. 22. 

Savannah’s Blick Gallery presents Ovation, an exhibition showcasing the Georgia Southern University Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art’s 2016-17 Visual Art Scholarship and award recipients.

Awardees Kathleen Blankenship, Erin Fortenberry, Lyanna Mitchell, Emily Oren, Kimberly Page, Ray Pettit, Courtney Ryan, and MacKenzie Willard will be featured in the exhibition that will include their work consisting of drawing, ceramics, graphic design, painting, and printmaking.

“We are looking forward to introducing Savannah to the best of the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art again this year,” said Assistant Professor Elsie Taliaferro Hill. “Ovation is such a great tradition and a fabulous exhibit.”

Ovation is open to the public and will be on display from Sept. 10 to Sept. 29 with a closing reception on Thursday, September 22 from 6-8 p.m. which will coincide with Blick Art Material’s Madness event.

The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art awarded the Rosalind D. Ragans Art Scholarship, Carolyn Joyner Memorial Scholarship, Peter Smith Memorial Graphic Design Award, Memorial Robert J. Focht Memorial Drawing Award, Roxie Remley Scholarship, the Eagle Nation on Parade Scholarships, and four Betty Foy Sanders Scholarships this academic year. The criteria for receiving these competitive awards reflect the student’s academic achievement and creative performance while enrolled at the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art at Georgia Southern University.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the artistic accomplishments of our scholarship recipients in Savannah, and we could not be more proud of their work,” said Professor and Visual Art Scholarship Director, Dr. Julie McGuire.

The Blick Gallery is located inside Blick Art Materials at 318 East Broughton Street in Savannah, Georgia and is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. – 6p.m. Blick Art Materials, a leading provider of art materials, has been a long-time supporter and advocate for the arts, and continues to be involved in many national and local initiatives to support art and offset budget constrictions in schools and communities.
