Armstrong Youth Orchestra to hold auditions on Georgia Southern Armstrong Campus
The Armstrong Youth Orchestra (AYO) is holding auditions Saturday, Aug. 18 and Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Georgia Southern University Armstrong Campus Fine Arts Hall in Savannah.
Lorraine Jones, AYO director, said enthusiasm is very high for the upcoming season.
“This year we are having a huge turnout for auditions,” Jones said. “Morale is at a high level with the students yearning to come back and get started once again. We have many great pieces planned for performance such as “Harry Potter,” songs from the show “Wicked,” and many great classics.”
The goal of the AYO Program is to offer serious music students the opportunity to play in an accomplished orchestra while developing their musical skills. The program teaches constructive study, rehearsal and performance habits in a joyful, rewarding and cooperative atmosphere.
The AYO Ensembles include: Debut Strings Ensemble, Serenade Strings Ensemble, Lyric Strings Ensemble, Repertory Youth Orchestra and Armstrong Symphony Orchestra. Weekly rehearsals
are held Saturday mornings for all ensembles except AYO, which are held Sunday afternoons.
Membership tuition is $175 per semester, but some members may qualify for family discounts or scholarships.
Auditions are for beginners through advanced students and are by appointment only. Email email@example.com to schedule an audition. For more information please visit ayosavannah.org.
