CLASS Coordinator, Advisors present at local NACADA conference

NACADAThe CLASS Advisement Center was represented at the recent National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Conference held April 1-3 in Savannah.

On the final day of the conference, Advising Coordinator Jennifer Glenn; Justice Studies Advisor Kimberly Simpson; and Music Advisor Veena Shankar presented “Parents: Friend or Foe to Academic Advising?.” An interactive presentation about the various types of parents that advisors encounter–from the helicopter parents to the lawnmower parents, Glenn, Shankar and Simpson challenged the audience to create strategies and techniques for actively and appropriately engaging parents in their student’s academic advisement experience.

Also attending the conference were CLASS Advisors Breanna Calamas, Christy Curley, Danielle Bostick, JoAnne White and Graduate Advising Intern Kinsley Baker.
