Camp helping high school students see college as an option

Author Talk features Jared Yates Sexton March 2

Writer Jared Yates Sexton will be featured in a free online event, Author Talk, Wednesday, March 2, at 7 p.m.

The focus of Author Talk is Sexton’s 2020 book, American Rule: How a Nation Conquered
the World but Failed Its People. Sexton will be joined in conversation by Blakeley Bartee, who
graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2020 with a double major in Writing and Linguistics and
Multimedia Journalism. Bartee has worked as a journalist and currently manages social media for a
nonprofit in Augusta.

Sexton is an associate professor of creative writing in the Department of Writing and Linguistics. His
books include three collections of short fiction and a novel. More recent books include an examination of
the 2016 presidential election, The People Are Going To Rise Like The Waters Upon Your Shore: A Story of
American Rage, and the memoir The Man They Wanted Me To Be: Toxic Masculinity and a Crisis of Our
Own Making.
